Absu Death Metal Band T-Shirt and Merch
Absu is a death metal band that was formed in 1991 in Dallas, Texas. The band's name is derived from the Mesopotamian mythological term "abzu," which refers to the primeval sea from which all life sprang. The band's original lineup consisted of vocalist/guitarist Joe Mezzio, bassist Brett Campbell, and drummer David Call. Throughout the 1990s, the band released several demos and EPs, and in 1998, they released their debut full-length album, "In the Beginning."
In the early 2000s, Absu underwent several lineup changes, with Mezzio and Campbell remaining as the only original members. They released their second full-length album, "Abzu," in 2001, which featured a more refined sound and gained the band a wider audience. In 2005, the band released their third album, "Tara," which marked a departure from their traditional death metal sound and incorporated elements of black metal and folk metal. This change in sound was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics.
Despite the lineup changes and shifts in their musical style, Absu continued to tour and perform at major metal festivals throughout the world. In 2009, they released their fourth album, "The Sun of Tiphareth," which was well-received and saw the band return to their death metal roots. In 2013, they released their fifth and final album, "Mythos of Igig," which was hailed as a return to form and a fitting end to the band's career.
In 2014, Absu announced that they would be disbanding. In a statement, the band cited creative differences and a desire to pursue other projects as the reasons for their breakup. Despite their relatively short career, Abzu left a lasting impact on the death metal genre and will be remembered as one of the pioneering bands of the genre.
