Asta Kask: A Punk Rock Band from Sweden
Asta Kask is a punk rock band from Sweden that was formed in 1979 in the city of Borås. The band's name comes from the Swedish word for "dung beetle," which is fitting considering their rough and raw sound.
Asta Kask rose to fame in the 1980s with their energetic live performances and politically charged lyrics. Their music often dealt with social and political issues, such as environmentalism, anti-capitalism, and anti-fascism. In many ways, Asta Kask helped to define the punk rock scene in Sweden.
The band's original lineup consisted of Karin "Kakan" Johansson on vocals, Mikael "Micke" Jonsson on guitar, Anders "Dalle" Lindmark on bass, and Urban "Stry" Strom on drums. This lineup released several successful albums and singles, including "Mitt kvarter" and "Hand i hand," before Johansson left the band in 1984 to pursue a solo career.
After Johansson's departure, Asta Kask went through a number of lineup changes, with different members coming and going over the years. Despite these changes, the band continued to tour and release new music, including the albums "En plats i solen" and "Självironi."
In the 1990s, Asta Kask's popularity began to wane, and the band eventually went on hiatus in 1999. However, they reunited in 2006 and have continued to perform and record new music, including the album "Motorkross i mitt huvud" in 2009.
Today, Asta Kask is considered a pioneer of the Swedish punk rock scene and continues to influence new generations of punk musicians. They are known for their powerful live performances and their steadfast commitment to the punk rock ethos.
