Belly: An Alternative Rock Band From Rhode Island
Formed in 1991 in Rhode Island, Belly is an alternative rock band that has been making waves in the music industry for nearly three decades. Comprised of members Tanya Donelly, Tom Gorman, Gail Greenwood, and Chris Gorman, the band has released four studio albums and has been hailed for their unique blend of grunge and dream pop influences.
Belly got their start in the early 1990s, when Donelly and the Gorman brothers decided to form a band. The group quickly gained a following in their local scene, and after releasing their first single "Feed the Tree" in 1993, they signed a record deal with Sire Records. Their debut album, "Star," was released in 1993 and featured hit singles such as "Dusted" and "Slow Dog."
Belly's unique sound, which combines elements of grunge and dream pop, has been praised by critics and fans alike. Their songs often feature distorted guitars, ethereal harmonies, and introspective lyrics, and their live performances are known for their energetic and passionate energy. In 1995, Belly released their follow-up album, "King," which featured the hit single "Now They'll Sleep." The band continued to tour and perform, and in 1998 they released their third album, "Dove." The album featured the single "Sugar" and was their most commercially successful to date.
After a brief hiatus, Belly reunited in 2016 and released their fourth album, "Daughter," in 2017. The album was well-received by critics and fans, and the band continues to tour and perform today. Belly has been an influential force in the alternative rock scene, and their unique sound and passionate performances continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
