In the development of music in the years 1960-1970 emerged a music genre called heavy metal. The name heavy metal itself is inspired and taken from a song by a hard rock band called Steppenwolf with the title song Born To Be Wild which contains the word heavy metal in some of the lyrics. The term heavy metal was not well known in the 1960s until in the 1970s it was introduced by a British band called Black Sabbath. Heavy metal music itself can be recognized by the characteristic distortion on the guitar which is very strong and the beats on all instruments are relatively fast. The lyrics themselves refer to the theme of masculinity and virility. Of all the music genres, heavy metal is one of the roots of the many musical genres that we know today.
