Ska is divided into three types: "Traditional", "2-Tone" and "3rd Wave". The third wave was when ska hit America in the late 1980s, and added a bit of distortion to music and a punk attitude, for example The Mighty-Mighty Bostones, Save Ferris, Reel Big Fish, Sublime and so on. Ska is a type of music that has an upbeat guitar sound. It is usually accompanied by bass and the same rhythm sometimes together but not always. Ska has been around since the 1950s and Reggae originated from it. Ska, today, has more of a punk influence to it. Although not completely punk, but there is a rhythm of ska in it, because Ska came long ago punk. The two sounds mixed together as Ska hit the American music scene in the third wave of ska.
